on congress to make a deal. joining me now, chris van hollen and also a member of the house budget committee, congressman, good morning to you, sir. >> good morning, craig. great to be with you. >> the national journal reporting that the president could hold events related to the cliff this week. what are you hearing? >> well, i think that's right. i don't think anything has been settled. there have been on going conversations, but obviously the discussion will heat up this week now that the thanksgiving is behind us. >> what does the white house hope to accomplish with these types of events? >> well, look, this was not a side issue in the campaign. throughout the last presidential campaign the president made very clear that his number one focus was jobs and the economy and also having a long-term plan to reduce the deficit in a balanced way and that means in addition to cuts you would also have revenue, revenue that you get by asking higher income earners to pay a little bit more to reduce the deficit and so the president was really clear in the campaign and i think it is really important t

? >> right now, outside of hoyer, the person a generous the more -- most chatter is chris van hollen, representative from maryland, a democrat. paul ryan's foil on the budget committee in the house. again, a young, sort of take charge, a charismatic leader. he raised a lot of money. he ran the democratic congressional campaign committee for two cycles. so, he has a lot of pole. complicated a little bit by the fact that he and hoyer our friends and they represent the same state and run in the same circles. he was the assistant to the speaker in nancy pelosi's last term as speaker. that seems to be the person who bubbles to the top the most. and a question about what debbie wasserman schultz will do. democratic committee chairman. no one does that job to long. she is looking at a way to leadership -- i hate to use terms like the smart money, but the smart money seems to be if pelosi wants to know if a successor and get behind somebody, it would be chris van hollen. >> that shakes. drama makes what is going on in the senate look tame by comparison. what is the light of the land on the s
credit cardin won that race. >> 8th district, we can tell you the incumbent chris van hollen has won over his republican challenger. >> there are several controversial ballot measures in maryland. question 4 would grant instate tuition to illegal immigrants. now with 1% of the precinct reporting, it appears there's about a two to one lead for that measure. >> question 7, which will decide whether to expand gamble in maryland. 1% reporting, still very close. 51% of the voters are against expanding gambling. 49 #% are for it. we'll be watching this one all night. >> virginia, long lines have led to a delay in election results in the commonwealth. >> karen gray houston is live at the state board of elections with the latest. >> reporter: voting done now. we are at the fairfax county government center, which is the headquarters for the board of elections. people were voting there until just a short time ago. they always tell you if you're in line when the polls close, that they will let you vote. they did that here at 7:00, the polls closed and there were a bunch of people left trying to get
